INERATEC is project partner in the “H2Mare” lead project

With INERATEC, e-fuels and sustainable methanol will be produced directly at the offshore wind turbine in the future. As a partner in the BMBF funded lead project H2Mare, INERATEC will support the offshore production of green hydrogen and other PtX products such as methanol and ammonia within the sub-project PtX-Wind. Together with the project partners, an island solution will be developed and tested that can also be used in a maritime environment. The goal of the project for INERATEC (IC) is to create a concept for a plant that is as autonomous as possible and can also be used under particularly harsh conditions, such as a maritime environment. In addition, a digital twin of the IC plant components is to be created, which will enable the prediction of the process behavior also and especially under volatile conditions. To this end, IC is to receive funding from the BMBF in the amount of 1.258 million euros.

With its largest research initiative to date on the subject of the energy transition, the BMBF is supporting Germany’s entry into the hydrogen economy and, with the three hydrogen lead projects, is making a central contribution to the implementation of the National Hydrogen Strategy. Over a period of four years, they are intended to remove existing hurdles that make this entry more difficult. The projects involve the series production of large-scale water electrolysers (H2Giga), the generation of hydrogen and downstream products on the high seas (H2Mare), and technologies for the transport of hydrogen (TransHyDE).

According to the ministry, the project, which is unique to date, “has the potential to develop a global lighthouse effect from Germany. If successful, new export opportunities for Germany can arise from the technology.”

About the hydrogen lead projects:

More than 240 partners from science and industry are working together in the hydrogen lead projects. The projects were launched in the spring on the basis of non-binding funding indications. In total, the funding will amount to over 740 million euros.
