Emissions trading / ETS
Emissions trading (ETS) is a climate policy instrument in which companies receive a limited quota of emission allowances that they can trade with each other.
The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by creating an incentive to invest in low-emission technologies. In the European Union, the ETS applies to CO2 emissions from power plants, refineries, steelworks and other large industrial plants.
